AFFILIATE MARKETING MISTAKES

As mentioned previously, affiliate marketing is when an organization will pay commission to an affiliate to promote their products through a website, blog, email, or social media. It has become a common trend for organizations to engage in affiliate marketing to leverage the internet. In the US, affiliate marketing spending is expected to reach $8.2 billion by 2022, compared to $5.4 billion in 2017. Therefore, it isn’t wrong to conclude that it is a thriving industry with a lot of room and opportunity for growth. Marketers who have understood the proper techniques and principles have raked in enough income to sustain and grow their businesses. There are several assumptions of affiliate marketing. That will be a discussion for a later date. Today, I will focus on common affiliate marketing mistakes people make as they begin their journey.

Not having sufficient knowledge of your product.

Lack of sufficient knowledge of the product is a typical affiliate marketing mistake made by beginners. It is often a result of prioritizing money and not understanding marketing principles. Marketing’s primary purpose is to convince new clients to invest in your product. You cannot convince clients without sufficient knowledge of the product. Affiliate marketers often need to engage with clients on social media platforms constantly. Potential clients will have numerous queries and doubts. An affiliate marketer needs to answer all these queries truthfully, or else potential clients will lose trust in the product to the company’s detriment. In this case, it is better to be a master of one art than a jack of all trades.

Failing to test and compare products

This is another common affiliate marketing mistake closely related to the initial one mentioned. Part of knowing your product is by purchasing and utilizing the product. In addition, it is important also to test competitors’ products to understand the uniqueness of the product you choose to market. Testing and comparing the case of skincare products will allow the marketer to vividly explain and possibly even document how each product reacted with their skin. Clients can be stubborn, they often have numerous doubts, and such convincing will enable them to purchase the product.

Ignoring Digital Marketing Principles

Affiliate marketing is a form of marketing that leverages the internet. Ignoring digital marketing principles is one of the beginners’ most common affiliate marketing mistakes. To increase web traffic and conversions, keywords and optimization must be applied to websites. It is also essential to develop a digital marketing roadmap that will act as a guide throughout the process. Furthermore, remember the 4 Ps of digital that will transform your marketing; people, process, platform and performance.

Neglecting Content

Another common affiliate marketing mistake is focusing too much on sales and neglecting content. Affiliate marketing is done through blogs, vlogs and social media threads and posts. People do not access blogs to buy products but gain knowledge through content. Click-baiting clients will bring about negative results. The website bounce rate will be very high if there is too much advertising and less content. Content is always king.

Focusing on a single advertising channel

Advertising should never be done using a single channel. This applies to both traditional forms of marketing and modern digital marketing. Often, beginners make the mistake of focusing too much on either blogs or YouTube videos and ignoring other social media channels. The best way to increase conversions is by using all means possible to reach your target audience. Always stay up to date with the trends in digital marketing.
